since before i loved you

since before i loved you,
i dreamt of your eyes:
two slices of blue gulf
stripped along the horizon,
glistening
with a million years of rain.

i wanted them before i knew you,
i’m sure.

only they can penetrate me
with the force of a thousand burning suns.

i can feel them on my lips
through the sound of your breathing.

i love therefore i am.

———————————

sometimes i find it tough to show you that you’re the only one that matters in this life. and here you are: here i am.

    “since before i loved you,
    i dreamt of your eyes:
    two slices of blue gulf
    stripped along the horizon,
    glistening
with a million years of rain.”

Reminds me of my favorite Elizabeth Browning Sonnet! I retweeted! xoxo

“I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, — I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!”

  6. Would you consider writing a guest post for my blog? I have been swamped with life: kids, dad with cancer, work and I LOVE your poetry/prose! I’d post an introduction and a link back to your blog! Let me know!

  7. I’m sitting outside with the moon reading this(on iPod); usually I’m completely conten with her light and the night by my side…. But this, this makes me feel alone. Makes my arms hurt from having noone to touch next to me. Noones’ eyes to fall into completely.

    Your writings destroy me

  8. ‘since before i loved you,
i dreamt of your eyes’ – such a lovely thought. The way human beings feel about love I will never understand, but this poem goes some distance to showing me the way.

  9. “since before i loved you”….it’s true, how love does that to us…tricks us into losing track of time…into forgetting that something else existed before it or after it..

  10. Right here.. You sounded like Rumi’s daughter. Breathtaking. I loved the first two lines.
